Hi all -
I have about 20 vintage CPK kids that I have had for over 20 years (bought them new), and who probably started me on my doll collecting!
Haven't gotten any "new" ones for a long, long time. Today, I found one in the toy bin at Goodwill for 1.99. She has the red-orange yarn hair with braids (still in original style). I know I have washed the shorter haired CPKs in the washing machine before to clean them up--but I've never tried it with a doll with braids. Will she survive a washing machine bath?
I want to get her fixed up for Christmas. Luckily, I have tons of extra vintage CPK clothes, so I can get her dressed as soon as I get her cleaned!
Linda

I don't have any CPK's, but I can tell you right now if you washed it the hair would come out of it's original style. You can put the hair in a hair net before washing which MIGHT help keep it together...

I DO NOT suggest putting the doll in the washer with braids. But it all depends on what you are going to use her for. Is she a collectors item? (for resell) or just a friend for yourself.
If you have no plans to resell you can try washing in a pillowcase... but its still so risky.
What color is the signature on her bottom. IF it is black DO NOT WASH. Those are highly collectable as that signifies the original batch of massed produced CPKs

I've bought many-o-CPK's at garage sales, and I always hand wash them. Try soaking them in some Oxy Clean, squish out the excess water (Don't wring) and then hang them up to dry in the shower. I also used to use rubbing alcohol with Qtips on the vinyl, but that was before I knew about baking soda.
